Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ignited a storm of laughter among journalists and attendees when he winked and used sign language in a comedic and sarcastic manner to imply yes, we will invade, in response to a journalist's question about whether Russia intends to invade Ukraine.
Lavrov described the claims that the Russian-Belarusian drills were fabricated for an invasion of Ukraine as mere speculation. Speaking at a press conference with his Polish counterpart, current chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Zbigniew Rao, on Tuesday, he stated, "The claim that the Russian-Belarusian drills were initiated to attack Ukraine from the north and seize Kyiv is just speculation."
He added, "All these crazy scenarios have been published multiple times by reputable media, unfortunately, but the thrill felt by the leaders of the chorus and the screenwriters of all these actions also pressures the media themselves." He continued: "What is the West's stance now? They will mostly say that President Biden pressured us, and then we immediately got scared and complied with his demands; this is a trade of hot air, and our Western colleagues are very successful at this."
