Tehran Begins Enrichment with Advanced Centrifuges

Reuters reported that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that Iran has begun uranium enrichment with a second set of advanced centrifuges and is nearing completion of a third set installation at the Natanz facility, noting that the capacity of the new centrifuges is four times that of the first-generation devices.

Iran's representative at the IAEA said, "We have informed the agency of these actions, and the agency can verify them." U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken considered that Iran is just weeks away from producing materials for nuclear weapons if it continues to violate the nuclear agreement. Blinken added in press statements on Monday that the United States is prepared to return to the nuclear deal if Iran recommits to it, noting that Iran should release the detained Americans regardless of any agreement with it.

In the same context, European Union spokesperson Peter Stano stated that the priority for EU countries is the return of the United States to the nuclear deal. Stano explained that the return of Washington to the nuclear agreement could serve as a springboard for broader dialogue on security and stability in the region, mentioning that the EU is in communication with the parties involved in the nuclear deal and the Biden administration to get the agreement back on track, stating, "We are discussing with the American side the lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran."

Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that his country is waiting for a practical action from Washington regarding the nuclear agreement, emphasizing that returning to the agreement requires the lifting of all sanctions on Iran.
