President-elect Joe Biden announced a stimulus package of up to $1.9 trillion to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, promising to distribute 100 million vaccine doses within the first 100 days of his administration.
During a press conference, Biden stated that his relief and recovery plan from the pandemic consists of two phases, emphasizing that the United States is in an economic and health crisis that requires urgent action. Biden mentioned that his administration will provide $2,000 in stimulus checks to assist millions and alleviate the crisis, noting that he will do his utmost to reopen schools in the U.S. during his first 100 days in office. He added that his plan to confront the COVID-19 pandemic requires $400 billion from Congress, clarifying that it includes direct payments to Americans, and highlighted that the current monthly assistance of $600 is insufficient. He also mentioned that raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour is part of the plan, commending Florida for implementing the new minimum wage and urging other states to follow suit.
