Naval News reported that Japan recently launched a new combat frigate developed for its naval forces. A post on the site stated, "On Thursday, June 23, at one of the shipyards of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a new vessel of the Mogami class 30FFM was launched, built for the Japanese navy." According to the site, technicians at the mentioned dock will soon begin equipping the ship with the necessary equipment in preparation for testing. After the tests are completed, the vessel is expected to be delivered to the Japanese military in 2023. Each 30FFM ship measures approximately 132.5 meters in length, 16.3 meters in width, and has a displacement of 5,500 tons. These ships are equipped with diesel and gas engines, allowing them to move at a speed of 30 knots. Armament includes 127 mm caliber guns, Mk.41 missile launch platforms, anti-ship missiles with a range of up to 400 km, 324 mm torpedoes, 12.7 mm machine guns, and platforms for carrying helicopters.
