A resident of the Italian city of Asti escaped from house arrest with his mother-in-law and attempted to convince the police to arrest him to avoid being with her, according to "Russia Today," citing the Italian newspaper "Libero." The newspaper revealed that a 52-year-old man was sentenced to two years and two months in prison after asking to be transferred to a detention system so he wouldn't have to stay under house arrest with his mother-in-law.
The authorities rejected his "strange" request, which prompted him to flee his home. However, police search efforts did not take long, as the "fugitive" voluntarily appeared at the barracks, stating, "I have escaped, and here I am to turn myself in... now you can arrest me," according to the newspaper.
In addition to his escape, the man did not stop there; when police refused his repeated requests for them to arrest him, he kicked and punched one of them. As a result, he was charged with assaulting a public official and resisting arrest, leading to his detention, according to "Libero." The man expressed his apologies to the investigating judge for what happened, admitting that he "overindulged in alcohol and did not remember anything" but now hopes only to go to prison.
