The U.S. capital, Washington, has closed several bridges leading into the city, as well as dozens of roads, and visits to several famous landmarks across the country have been prohibited until next week.
According to CNN today, thousands of National Guard troops and barriers have been deployed in an effort to prevent a repeat of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. The network reported that police in downtown Washington arrested a man from Virginia who attempted to pass through a Capitol Police checkpoint on Friday while carrying fake documents, a loaded gun, and more than 500 rounds of ammunition.
The FBI has warned police agencies about potential armed protests in state capitals, starting today and continuing until the inauguration of elected President Joe Biden on January 20.
Currently, thousands of armed National Guard members are patrolling the streets of Washington in an unprecedented show of force in the U.S. capital following the violent attack on the Capitol Building by Trump supporters on January 6.
