A new study has revealed evidence that Chinese scientists manufactured the coronavirus in a lab and then attempted to reverse-engineer a version of the virus to make it appear as though it evolved naturally from bats. British professor Angus Dalgleish and Norwegian scientist Dr. Berger Sørensen stated that they had preliminary evidence of "the virus being manufactured in China" since last year, but it has been disregarded by academics and major medical journals, according to American channel Fox News, which cited the upcoming publication of the study.
The study concluded that "the probability of the virus being natural is extremely low," as the virus continues to kill 12,000 people daily around the world. Dalgleish is known as a professor of oncology in London, recognized for his notable research on a vaccine for HIV. Sørensen is a virologist and the head of an immunological pharmaceutical company that developed a coronavirus vaccine product called Biovacc-19.
The researchers stated that during the search for a COVID-19 vaccine, they discovered "unique fingerprints" indicating that the virus did not come from nature. They also tracked published Chinese research, some of which appeared in American universities, which focused on how to create tools to manufacture the virus. A significant part of the reviewed work included "gain of function" research, which involves manipulating natural viruses in the lab to make them more infectious, allowing scientists to study their potential impact on humans.
The United States halted such research in 2014, but it remains unclear whether $600,000 was used to fund medical research in China related to virus manipulation, as stated by Dr. Anthony Fauci in Congress last week. Scientists expect that the virus is likely to gradually mutate and become more contagious but less pathogenic, a scenario that many anticipated with the COVID-19 pandemic, but so far, this has not occurred.
