Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that the first case of a condition called "Flurona," which is a dual infection of coronavirus and influenza, has been registered. The newspaper clarified that the "dual disease" was identified in a woman who entered Rabin Medical Center for childbirth this week. According to doctors, the young woman, who is unvaccinated, is in good health and is expected to be discharged later today, especially since her case is relatively mild.
Professor Arnon Vignitzer, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, stated that the woman did not show symptoms of severe illness and underwent both COVID-19 and influenza tests upon her arrival, with positive results for both. The health ministry is still studying the case and has not yet determined whether the combination of the two viruses causes a more severe illness. Health officials estimate that other patients may be infected with "Flurona" but have not been diagnosed.
Israel is experiencing an influenza outbreak, treating 1,849 patients last week. The registered "Flurona" case comes at a time when health authorities announced four thousand new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, reaching a record level not seen since September.
