Qatar plans to set up one thousand traditional tents in the desert to welcome visitors during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with expectations of 1.2 million fans arriving, according to organizers. Omar Al-Jaber, the executive director of the Housing Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, stated in a press meeting, “This will be one of the options available in the coming weeks.” He explained, “This is a real camp. We will give people the experience of the desert and Bedouin-style tents.”
The tents will be equipped with electricity from generators, water, and sewage systems, but they will not be air-conditioned. There will also be a luxury camp with 200 tents.
The tents will be set up on "Sealine" beach in the south of the country, at the gateway to the desert, along with "other locations to be announced later," Al-Jaber added. While the number of hotels and their high prices worry incoming fans, Al-Jaber pointed out that "more than 100,000 rooms" are available. New options will be presented on the official platform open to ticket holders in the coming weeks, including "ready villages."
Organizers have reserved a significant number of hotel rooms for teams, referees, officials, and journalists, but FIFA will release those that will not be used. During the Qatar World Cup finals, more than 160 round-trip flights will be organized daily from neighboring Gulf countries (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Oman) to facilitate hosting fans.
