The Danish public prosecutor announced today, Monday, that three individuals have been charged with planning terrorist acts by possessing weapons and materials to make bombs "for use in an attack at an unknown location, either inside Denmark or outside it." The prosecutor did not disclose the identities of the suspects, who are two men and a woman in their thirties, in accordance with Danish practices, as reported by AFP. However, Danish TV channel "TV 2" mentioned that among the accused are two men from Syria, one of whom is married to a woman of Iraqi descent. They were arrested in February 2021 and remain in pre-trial detention. The woman holds dual nationality, and the prosecution intends to strip her of her Danish citizenship and permanently expel her from Denmark, while also seeking the deportation of the two men. Copenhagen's chief prosecutor, Lis Lott Nillas, stated in a press release, "We saw that the plans (to carry out attacks) failed because the police arrested the (suspects)." In addition to charges of attempted terrorism, the suspects are also facing charges of financing terrorist activities by transferring money to an individual affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization (banned in Russia). If prosecuted and convicted, they face potential life sentences, which in Denmark usually equate to a jail term of 16 years.
