The Crime in Jordan: Shocking Details Revealed by Maryam's Family

The mother of the Syrian girl Maryam, who was killed by a thirty-year-old man in the Jordanian capital Amman, could not hold back her tears as the family explained the reason behind the crime: their refusal to marry her to him. The security forces did not take long to uncover the details of the crime and apprehend the criminal who stabbed the girl, a Syrian national who had lived in Jordan with her family for over 35 years, 15 times in various parts of her body.

**Hatred Due to Rejection of Marriage**

"Al Arabiya" channel met with the victim's family in the Ashrafieh area of Amman, where Maryam, a twenty-something girl working in the beauty industry, would regularly go to work and return at irregular hours due to the nature of her job that requires scheduling appointments with clients.

Maryam's father, Muhammad Hamdo, recounted the details of the crime that has outraged the Jordanian community, stating that the killer had previously proposed to marry his daughter multiple times. The family's unfamiliarity with the young man and his strange insistence led them to reject him repeatedly, and then the nightmare began, as described by him.

He stated that the young man continued to harass Maryam and monitor her for long days; he knew her college and work schedules and would pursue her even when she went to visit friends. The father also mentioned that he had filed a complaint with the authorities against the man, as he had once attempted to run him over while trying to defend his daughter.

On the day of the crime, Maryam's father revealed that considerable time had passed after her work ended without hearing from her, and her phone remained turned off, filling him with fear. He later heard police sirens and confirmed that something bad had happened to his daughter, as security forces informed him that Maryam had been stabbed and had died just a few meters from their home.

Additionally, Maryam's father called on the judiciary to impose the harshest punishment on the perpetrator—death—so that he receives the penalty he deserves for committing such a heinous crime.

**Maryam's Aspirations Cut Short**

For her part, Maryam's mother struggled to speak much and reflected on her relationship with her daughter and the great ambitions the young woman held, which the criminal extinguished in the blink of an eye. She confirmed that the murderer had watched her for hours and days in front of their home, only moving when Maryam did, and she feared reporting this due to concern for their safety.

**Official Statement**

For his part, the media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate in Jordan, Colonel Amer Al-Sartawy, stated that a report was received early Saturday morning about a girl of Arab nationality being stabbed by an unknown assailant while in the Ashrafieh area, and she soon succumbed to her injuries.

The spokesperson added that during the investigation and information gathering, the identity of the killer was established, revealing that he had gone into hiding since committing the crime. He confirmed that the following evening, the location of the suspect was identified, and he was arrested, with investigations beginning in preparation for referral to the judiciary.
