Why Dairy Products Should Not Be Stored in the Refrigerator Door

An expert from the food-sharing app OLIO has revealed some tips to help shoppers reduce food waste by storing food correctly. Tessa Clarke explains how to store your food in a way that allows for a few extra days of freshness, giving you time to enjoy delicious products that may otherwise spoil and end up in the trash.

The main tip Mrs. Clarke offers is to never store milk in the refrigerator door. Instead, she advises shoppers to store dairy products at the back of the refrigerator, where it is coolest, to ensure maximum shelf life.

When it comes to ensuring bread stays fresh longer, shoppers are encouraged to buy whole loaves instead of sliced ones, wrapping them in reusable cotton bags, which should then be stored in an airtight container.

Meanwhile, Clarke mentions that an open avocado should be kept in a container with a slice of onion to prevent browning. Bananas should be wrapped in aluminum foil or beeswax wrap to maintain their freshness, while berries should be washed in a mixture of water and vinegar before refrigerating.

Clarke also recommends having a designated shelf in the refrigerator for foods that are known to spoil quickly, allowing you to focus on consuming those products first, according to the British newspaper Express.
