The manner in which a police officer intervened to break up a fight at a school in Wisconsin, USA, has sparked severe criticism after he knelt on a 12-year-old girl's neck for about a minute and a half. Video footage shows Officer Sean Gochu attempting to separate the fighting students before he pinned the girl down and restrained her by kneeling on her neck, similar to the actions of Officer Derek Chauvin with George Floyd, an African American man who fell victim to police violence.
The girl's father, identified as Jirell Perez, has called for criminal charges against Gochu for resorting to a neck restraint, which was banned for law enforcement officers in Wisconsin last year. Perez explained that his daughter has experienced psychological trauma and is currently undergoing treatment with a neurologist monitoring her condition, according to the New York Post.
Local media reported that Officer Gochu was granted a leave of absence but later submitted his resignation, stating that the incident had placed a heavy burden on his family.
