Syrian director Bassam Al-Mulla passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 66 due to an emergency health crisis. The Artists Syndicate mourned the late Al-Mulla, who is considered a pioneer of the Sham drama genre, which began with his first work, the series "Ayyam Shamiya," followed by several works including "Min Al-Khawali" and "Layali Al-Sahiya," and his most famous work, "Bab Al-Hara."
Al-Mulla comes from a distinguished artistic family; his father was the actor Adham Al-Mulla, and his brothers are directors Moamen and Bashar Al-Mulla. He began his career as an assistant director in the series "Tajareb A’ailiya" with the late Alaa Al-Din Kouks, then became a second director in "Hasad Al-Sinin" before directing his first series "Al-Khashkhash." This was followed by works that left a mark on people's memories, such as "Kan Ya Ma Kan" and "Al-Ababid," with his last work being "Souq Al-Hareer," which aired on screens last year, according to the Syrian news agency "SANA."
