Is Coffee a Source of Energy?

Is Coffee a Source of Energy?

Dr. Sergey Oblushka, a Russian nutrition expert, announced that coffee is not an energy source as many people believe, providing a compelling example. In a conversation with Radio Sputnik, the expert points out that people enjoy drinking coffee, which has created the misconception that it provides energy to tired individuals. However, he states that caffeine does not provide anything new to the body; it merely stimulates what is already present.

He says, "People think that coffee is a source of energy. If a person is tired and depleted, they believe they should drink coffee to gain the necessary energy. But in reality, this is not true. Caffeine only stimulates the burning of internal energy reserves. It accelerates the cells' work to produce energy from available resources. Chemically, it stimulates metabolic processes, but it is not a source of energy."

He adds, "Many do not understand how coffee works, which is why they use it incorrectly. When a person feels extremely fatigued and has practically no internal energy reserves left, they continue to stimulate themselves with caffeine. However, in this case, the effect can be the opposite, where instead of energy, they experience irritability and a sharp loss of concentration. This is often what happens with drivers who think they will gain energy from caffeine, but after drinking coffee, they almost immediately fall asleep."

He concludes that if a person feels tired and exhausted, they should sleep instead of consuming large amounts of coffee.
