Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that Iran has the right to set conditions on the nuclear agreement because it is the party that has fulfilled all its obligations.
Khamenei emphasized in a tweet that "Washington must lift sanctions in return for our return to our commitments under the nuclear agreement," indicating that the United States and European countries are the ones who violated the commitments of the agreement.
Earlier, Bloomberg News reported that the Biden administration is considering ways to ease financial pressure on Tehran without lifting major economic sanctions, including oil sanctions. Among the proposed methods, according to the agency, is supporting a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Iran to help address the economic repercussions of the coronavirus outbreak in the country and to ease sanctions that prevent international coronavirus-related assistance from reaching Iran. Officials in the Biden administration believe these steps have humanitarian justifications.
In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, Iran faces economic difficulties due to the U.S. sanctions imposed on it, particularly on oil exports, which are a major source of Tehran's income. Last year, Iran requested $5 billion in assistance from the IMF to combat the coronavirus.
