A Hamas leader stated that Israel must stop its violations in Jerusalem and repair the damages caused by the bombardment of Gaza following the ceasefire that began on Friday, warning that the group's hand is still "on the trigger." Ezzat al-Rashq, a member of Hamas' Political Bureau, said, "Today this battle stands still, but let Netanyahu know, and the whole world know, that our hand is on the trigger and that we will continue to accumulate the capabilities of this resistance and say to Netanyahu and his gang: If you return, we will return." He added in an interview with Reuters in Doha that the group's demands include protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque and stopping the removal of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem, which al-Rashq described as a "red line." The aerial bombardment of the densely populated sector resulted in the deaths of 232 Palestinians, while missile attacks killed 12 in Israel during the 11 days of conflict. Al-Rashq stated, "What comes after the Battle of Sword of Jerusalem is not like what came before it; our Palestinian people have rallied around the resistance and know that it is the resistance that will free their land and protect their holy sites." Hamas began launching rockets on May 10 in response to what it described as Israel's violations of Palestinian rights in Jerusalem, including confrontations with police at Al-Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.
