TikTok Tests Watch History Feature

TikTok is testing a new watch history feature with some users to allow them to find videos that appeared on their For You page that they did not have the chance to save. The accidental update of the For You page and the loss of a video before you have the opportunity to like it is a common issue for users, due to the continuous stream of content on the platform. It appears that the platform is looking to solve this issue by adding this potential feature.

When asked if the company plans to expand testing and roll out the feature to more users, the platform stated in an email that it has no further updates to share on the test at this time. A spokesperson for TikTok said, "We are always looking for new ways to add value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience."

Twitter user Hammod Oh, who frequently reveals features currently being tested by social media platforms, discovered the feature first, which was later highlighted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. Screenshots shared by Hammod Oh and other users indicate that users can access their watch history in the "Content and Activity" section of the app's settings. TikTok aims to facilitate the discovery of missed clips.

The testing comes after some platform users found alternative solutions to help locate missing videos. Earlier this year, one user posted a video guiding users through the process of discovering a missing video on TikTok. The video directs users to go to the Discover page, click on Search, and enter the asterisk symbol. Then, users should go to the search filter tab and turn on the "Videos Watched" toggle. Once they click "Apply," they receive a list of videos they have watched in the past seven days. That video has since gained massive views, with over 32 million views and more than 5.5 million likes.

However, this method is not the only way users have discovered missing videos. There is an alternative solution that guides users through the process of downloading their complete data from the app to access a compressed file that displays their video browsing history. The watch history feature should simplify the process of finding videos and eliminate the need for these workarounds.
