The electronic newspaper Al-Anbaa reports: The tragedy of the migrant boat sinking off the coast of Tripoli has had a profound social and political impact, shaking consciences due to the suffering it encapsulates of Lebanese fleeing from one death to another, faced with the choice between living in hell or migrating. Day by day, as the electoral deadline approaches, the Lebanese are increasingly convinced that there is no hope for salvation from hell except by confronting the project that led them there and standing against the dominance over national decision-making, laying the groundwork for a serious transition toward reform and recovery.
In comments regarding the disaster, head of the Democratic Gathering, MP Taymour Jumblatt, called for a swift and transparent investigation, "in hopes that we can reclaim our country from the death vessel that reckless actions have led us to." Northern sources expressed fear in a statement to Al-Anbaa that the incident may have been fabricated, demanding a bold and transparent investigation to understand how the warship collided with the boat. They also called on Army Commander General Joseph Aoun to personally oversee the investigation.
Member of the Future Bloc, MP Walid al-Ba'arini, expressed deep sorrow for this tragic catastrophe and revealed to Al-Anbaa that "a major mistake occurred," questioning, "How could a small boat collide with a warship?" He spoke of a "hidden thread that must be clarified to the public," describing the psychological state of the people in the North as "very bad," anticipating that the incident will have negative repercussions, and asserted that neither he nor the victims' families will accept the truth being obscured as it was regarding similar disasters at the port and elsewhere. He urged the army to clarify the truth to the public, stating, "The suffering of northerners is very difficult because the whole country is drowning, and none of the responsible figures feels compelled to act."
For his part, member of the Strong Lebanon Bloc, MP Wahi Habib Qatisha, attributed the incident to "hunger," noting that those who caused the plight are comfortable in their situations and are unconcerned. In a conversation with Al-Anbaa, Qatisha called on the army to "conduct a transparent investigation and determine responsibilities because it is inappropriate for matters to remain unclear." He added, "If it is true that the army was aware of the boat while it was on the shore, then why was it allowed to depart?" He concluded that there are important clarifications needed for the public to understand the matter.
