American billionaire Elon Musk announced that he would buy the beverage company "Coca-Cola," just days after finalizing his deal to purchase the microblogging site "Twitter." However, this announcement seemed to be a joke. Musk wrote on his verified Twitter account: "Next, I will buy Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in it."
The tweet received massive interaction, garnering over 40,000 comments by Thursday morning, being retweeted by more than 71,000 users, and liked by 635,000 others. In the comments, users suggested that Musk buy specific companies and platforms, such as "TikTok" and "McDonald's." Others reminded Musk that it would be difficult for him to purchase "Coca-Cola," given that its market value stands at $284 billion, which exceeds two-thirds of Musk's estimated wealth of $268 billion.
This tweet appears to be in a sarcastic context, as cocaine is legally prohibited, and Musk later tweeted: "Let's make Twitter as fun as possible." However, some reminded him of his acquisition of "Twitter," which was considered a joke by some before it became a reality just days ago in a deal worth $44 billion.
Media reports suggest that Musk's difficult childhood drives him to expand his control in the world. "Business Insider" stated that although the tweet seems sarcastic, it bears some historical facts. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse in the United States, cocaine was legal in 1885 when a pharmacist in Georgia brewed the drink that became the most famous in the world, using cocaine. At that time, pharmacist John Pemberton's recipe for the drink included cocaine extracted from coca leaves, before it was later abandoned.
