The ISIS terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attacks targeting the Taliban movement in Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, on Sunday. Two civilians were killed and one Taliban member was injured in an explosion in the city. According to the Afghan TV channel Tolo, local officials reported that an explosion occurred in a district of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, with no information about casualties available at the moment. A witness told Sputnik: "Two civilians were killed and a Taliban militant was injured in the explosion in Jalalabad today," explaining that "the explosion happened this morning near the Kabul bus station in the second district of Jalalabad."
Two explosions occurred in Nangarhar province on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuring 19 others. A local source stated to Sputnik that "two explosions occurred in Nangarhar using magnetic mines in both the 6th and 8th districts, followed by gunfire from the Taliban." Eyewitnesses reported that three explosions targeted Taliban vehicles in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, resulting in at least three deaths and injuring 20 others.
As for who is behind the attack, no one has immediately claimed responsibility, but fingers point to ISIS, which is active in the eastern part of the country. It remains unclear whether any Taliban officials were among the dead or injured. Tolo News reported that health officials indicated that the majority of the injured were civilians.
Additionally, a car bomb exploded on Saturday morning in the Afghan capital, Kabul, injuring two people, according to local media. No one has claimed responsibility for the Kabul bombing as of 11:45 GMT. It is worth noting that a bombing claimed by ISIS occurred last month near Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, resulting in over 170 deaths.
On August 15 of last year, the Taliban announced its control over Kabul coinciding with the completion of the U.S. military withdrawal at the end of that month, which led Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to flee the country.
