Berri Meets Houckstein: The Framework Agreement Remains the Foundation

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received the American mediator for the maritime border demarcation with occupied Palestine, Amos Hochstein, at the second presidential headquarters in Ain al-Tineh, in the presence of U.S. Ambassador Dorothy Shea. Speaker Berri confirmed to the American envoy that what he was informed by President Michel Aoun regarding maritime borders and Lebanon's rights to invest in its oil resources is agreed upon by all Lebanese.

The Speaker noted that the discussion centered on the formal aspects related to the essence of the maritime border demarcation, emphasizing that the framework agreement remains the foundation and the most appropriate mechanism for indirect negotiations based on the texts contained within it, which call for the continuity of meetings until reaching the desired results that lead to the demarcation of borders without infringing on Lebanon's right to drill, especially since Block No. (9) has already been contracted. What is happening now contradicts the agreement on one hand and deprives Lebanon of its rights while allowing the Israeli entity to extract and encroach, which jeopardizes peace in the region and exacerbates the seriousness of the situation.

Speaker Berri stressed that while Lebanon is keen on extracting its resources, it is also committed to maintaining stability.

Additionally, President Nabih Berri received Omani Ambassador Badr bin Mohammed bin Badr al-Mandhari in a farewell visit marking the end of his duties as his country's ambassador to Lebanon.

He also received Moroccan Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammed Akryn, who delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of his Moroccan counterpart Rachid Talbi Alami regarding Berri's election as President of the Lebanese Parliament for another term. The message stated: "It is an honor for me to express to you, on my behalf and on behalf of the members of the House of Representatives, sincere congratulations, wishing you more success and achievement in your noble duties, and I take this opportunity to express our strong desire to continue enhancing and developing the friendship and cooperation relations between our legislative institutions to serve the common interests of our two brotherly countries and peoples."

Ambassador Akryn also mentioned that the visit was an opportunity to discuss the general situation and the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Furthermore, the Speaker received Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, where the general situation, particularly the security aspect, was reviewed.
