Congress Committee Summons Four Trump Associates to Testify on Capitol Riot

Four individuals close to Donald Trump received subpoenas on Thursday to testify before a congressional committee regarding what the former president said and what he did on the day rioters stormed the Capitol earlier this year. Congressional investigators are tightening the screws on the Republican billionaire, whom Democrats accuse of being responsible for the bloody attack on the Capitol, a symbol of American democracy in Washington, on January 6. This special investigation committee, controlled by Democrats and labeled biased by Trump, is particularly interested in Mark Meadows, Trump’s Chief of Staff at the time.

Democratic Congressman Benny Thompson, who chairs the committee, wrote to Meadows, "It appears that you were with President Trump or near him on January 6, and you had communications with the President (former) and others on January 6 regarding the events at the Capitol, and that you witnessed the activities of that day."

Dan Scavino, one of Trump's close advisors who has been summoned, is believed to have been with Trump on January 5 during discussions about how to persuade Congress members not to certify Joe Biden's victory in the November presidential election.

Hundreds of rioters breached the Capitol as Congress was about to officially certify Biden's victory, claiming that the vote was rigged. The violent and chaotic attack resulted in the deaths of five people, including a Capitol police officer. Trump has refused to acknowledge his defeat to Biden and continues to make unfounded claims that he won the election. Among Trump’s other associates summoned by the committee are Steve Bannon and Kashyap Patel. The committee requests these four to provide a set of documents by October 7 and to testify before Congress the following week.
