The China Theatre Association has released a new list of ethical guidelines that actors and performers must adhere to.
Reuters reported that the China Theatre Association, a government-supported profit organization, published a new list of ethical guidelines on its official website that actors and other performers must follow. The list of guidelines includes not violating ethics, social order, or good customs, which could lead to serious negative social impacts. The association emphasized that performers should not incite hatred or discrimination between ethnic groups or promote cults and superstitions. It also noted that performers should not organize, participate in, or promote illegal activities such as pornography, gambling, drugs, violence, and other activities. The association clarified that these new rules will come into effect on a trial basis on March 1st, and stressed that actors who do not comply with these ethical principles may face permanent exclusion from their profession. The China Theatre Association did not mention the reason for issuing these guidelines at this time, amid increased public discussion in China regarding expectations for the behavior of companies and celebrities, especially foreign ones. Recently, the famous Italian brand "Prada" ended all cooperation with Chinese actress Zheng Shuang, who had just been appointed as the brand ambassador, after she sparked controversy over surrogacy, which drew criticism from citizens in her country.
