Message from a Blind Egyptian Doctor After Threatening Suicide

Under the headline "After Threatening Suicide: A Heartfelt Message from an Egyptian Doctor Who Lost His Sight," Al Arabiya reported that after social media in Egypt was filled with his poignant story and his announcement of suicidal intentions, Egyptian doctor Mahmoud Sami Qneiber, who lost his sight while treating COVID-19 patients at the quarantine hospital in Balteem, Kafr El Sheikh, shared a video apologizing for his previous statements regarding thoughts of suicide.

He confirmed that he wrote about his suicidal thoughts following a difficult mental crisis due to his inability to adjust to his current situation and the experiences during his stay in the residential unit provided by the governorate. He expressed his fear for his child, stating that he is unable to do anything around the house without waking his wife, and he feels powerless regarding his one-and-a-half-year-old son if anything were to happen to him, given his current condition.

However, he announced his intention to see a psychiatrist to receive necessary treatment for his mental state, apologizing to everyone who expressed concern for him.

Earlier, Qneiber wrote on his personal Facebook page before deleting the post: "Without stirring emotions of fear and pity, I am thinking about suicide. The situation is truly beyond my endurance, and every day new unbearable dimensions arise. My nights resemble my days. I wait for the night, but I don’t know why, and I wait for the day to come, but I don’t know why; I’m lost in a vast sea of illusions."

It is noted that the doctor suffered a serious illness that caused him to lose his sight while working in the quarantine hospital in Balteem, Kafr El Sheikh.
