The first thing that comes to your mind when you discover that you've lost your iPhone or it has been stolen is the best way to find it. There are ways you can take to increase the chances of locating your phone, specifically with Apple’s "Find My" feature. Some people see using face recognition or fingerprint recognition as unnecessary steps when using the phone, but those people are mistaken. Setting a passcode and using your face or fingerprint to protect all the information on your phone is a vital part of keeping your personal information secure.
After setting a passcode, check to make sure "Find My" is enabled, which usually comes turned on by default on the phone. This feature is found in the settings, under your username at the top of the screen. Apple’s Find My network will gather information about the location of the device marked as "lost." For example, if you lost your iPhone and marked it as "lost" in the Find My app, Apple will use the Find My service on any iPhone, iPad, or iMac to pinpoint the location of your phone, even if it’s not connected to the internet. Other device owners will not know that their phones and devices are contributing to the satellite search for a lost device. As your battery drains, the phone will automatically send its last location to Find My in an attempt to help you recover it in case it is turned off.
