Saudi Message to the Security Council Regarding Houthi Attacks on the Kingdom

The Saudi permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York announced on Thursday that the Kingdom has sent a message to the Security Council concerning the recent attacks by the Houthi group on the Eastern Province, Jazan, and Najran. The delegation stated that the continuation of these Houthi attacks hinders efforts to achieve regional stability and international peace.

The delegation emphasized that the Houthis' attacks on Saudi Arabia threaten the United Nations' efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, calling on the Security Council to strongly condemn such actions and hold the Houthi group accountable.

On Thursday morning, Saudi defenses intercepted a third explosive drone launched by the Houthis towards Khamis Mushait, after the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced a few hours earlier that it had intercepted and destroyed two explosive drones aimed at the same city. The coalition described the Houthi escalation as a barbaric aggression targeting civilians and civilian sites, asserting that attempts by the militia to launch explosive drones have been thwarted and stressing the implementation of strict measures to protect civilians.

Last Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced the interception of three ballistic missiles launched by Houthi militias towards the Kingdom, confirming that two children were injured and 14 homes were damaged as a result of intercepting the ballistic missiles and Houthi drones.

Notably, for some time, these militias have been attempting to target civilian and economic sites in the Kingdom, which has provoked condemnations from several Arab and Western countries, which affirmed their support for the Kingdom and its security, denouncing the terrorist attacks by the Houthis.

These repeated and escalating Houthi attempts come at a time when the United Nations is trying to establish a ceasefire in Yemen to restart negotiations aimed at achieving a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict.
