Saudi Arabia Suspends All Events and Parties for 30 Days, Subject to Extension

Saudi Arabia announced this morning, Thursday, several precautionary measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus, coinciding with indications of an increase in the pandemic curve in some regions of the Kingdom.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a responsible source in the Ministry of Interior stated that it has been decided to suspend all events and parties, including wedding celebrations and corporate meetings, for 30 days, subject to extension. It was also decided to halt all entertainment activities and events, as well as to close cinemas, indoor recreational centers, independent or restaurant-based indoor play areas, and sports halls and centers for 10 days, also subject to extension.

The statement added that it was decided to suspend dine-in services at restaurants and cafes, limiting them to takeout services for a period of 10 days, subject to extension.

The statement noted that the new measures will take effect from 10 PM today, Thursday, emphasizing that these actions will be subject to ongoing assessment with health authorities.

It is noteworthy that Saudi authorities issued instructions, on Tuesday, to temporarily suspend the entry of non-Saudi citizens, diplomats, healthcare practitioners, and their families from 20 countries around the world, including the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Saudi Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday the registration of 310 new coronavirus cases, the first time in more than two months, revealing a 25% increase in the number of infections in Saudi Arabia within 24 hours.
