Hajj Hussein Abu Sadam, the General Syndicate of Farmers in Egypt, provided 4 tips for housewives and those looking to store garlic in their homes without it spoiling throughout the year, as an alternative to buying it from markets at high prices. The tips included:
1. Buy garlic bulbs that are 5 cm in diameter or more, ensuring there is no mold or fungi present.
2. Gather the harvest from the stalks, bundle it, and place it on a table or anywhere inside the house or on the balcony, with the bulbs facing down and the stalks facing up for several weeks to dry.
3. After drying, place the garlic in a location that receives both sun and shade, away from high temperatures, throughout the week to ensure proper storage.
4. This method helps keep the garlic fresh and intact all year round.
Abu Sadam emphasized that storing garlic at home keeps it available year-round, protecting against rising prices and traders' greed, as the value of a kilogram during planting and harvesting does not exceed 6-7 Egyptian pounds, while after a few months it can surpass 20 pounds.
He also revealed that agricultural product prices are expected to drop in the upcoming weeks and during Ramadan due to the arrival of spring and a relative increase in temperatures, prompting traders and producers to sell their stocks before they spoil.
