Dinner has always been a contentious issue in research over the years, with some advocating for it while others warn against its health risks. However, new advice may have overturned previous knowledge on the topic. Lebanese nutritionist Carla Habib Murad emphasized that having dinner is very important, warning against the dangers of skipping this meal.
In a post on her Instagram account, she mentioned that it is better to eat dinner late than to skip it altogether. She also highlighted the risks associated with missing this meal.
Beware of Fats and Sugars
However, she cautioned against consuming too much sugar and fat at night if one decides to have dinner late. She explained that delaying the meal can indeed affect digestion, potentially leading to indigestion. Still, she stated that this is much less severe than skipping dinner.
Three to Four Hours Before Sleep
She attributed this to the fact that if the body does not receive a dinner meal, it will require more calories at breakfast the next day to make up for the deficit. Additionally, it may crave foods with much higher calories than if it had had a simple dinner, even if it was late.
It is worth mentioning that according to recent statistics, dinner accounts for 20% of the total food intake of an individual per day. Experts generally advise that dinner should be consumed 3 to 4 hours before sleep.
