Lebanese Government Justifies Rise in Bread Price Due to Dollar

The Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade stated in a statement that Raoul Nehme, the Minister of Economy and Trade, issued a decision setting the maximum price for a ton of wheat flour intended for producing Lebanese bread of category 85 at 864,000 Lebanese pounds at the mill's ground, for a ton of flour of category Zero at one million and one hundred thousand Lebanese pounds maximum, and for a ton of Extra wheat flour at one million and one hundred and fifty thousand Lebanese pounds maximum at the mill.

The ministry added that following the rise in the price of a ton of wheat flour, after exhausting all the Iraqi aid of flour for producing Arabic bread, and based on the analysis of manufacturing, distribution, and selling costs, as well as due to the increase in the dollar exchange rate, Nehme issued a decision setting the minimum price and weight for Lebanese white bread: a large bundle (900 grams) at a maximum price of 2,250 Lebanese pounds, and a medium bundle (400 grams) at a maximum price of 1,500 Lebanese pounds. The ministry confirmed that this decision was based on a scientific study of the bread bundle price index, and that a decision to reduce the price of the bread bundle will be made if the dollar exchange rate or the global wheat price decreases.
