Under the title "Father of Al-Kasasbeh: I Demand to Burn the Swedish ISIS Member Just as My Son Was Burned," Al-Arabiya published a report about the trial of Swedish ISIS member Osama Kareem in Sweden. The report highlighted the words of the father of Jordanian pilot Muath Al-Kasasbeh, who stated, "Every time the fire of Muath’s burning dies down, it ignites again." With these poignant words, Youssef, the father of Muath Al-Kasasbeh, expressed his grief regarding his son, the Jordanian pilot who was burned alive by ISIS in early 2015.
Following the news on Tuesday regarding the prosecution of Swedish ISIS member Osama Kareem for his involvement in the horrific burning incident that shocked the world years ago, Muath’s father talked to Al-Arabiya, saying, "I ask God to give me the chance to take revenge for Muath." He added, "Every time the fire of Muath’s burning dies down, this fire rekindles in our souls." He continued, expressing his ongoing pain, "I feel like Muath was killed today; whenever I hear about the arrest or trial of anyone involved in that heinous act, I await the Jordanian government's response to these individuals."
He emphasized that international law permits Jordan to summon all those involved in the burning of his son for trial on Jordanian soil since Muath is Jordanian. Furthermore, he urged the Swedish authorities to allow him to attend "the trial of this criminal" so he could at least learn the details of the incident and the location of Muath’s remains. He stated, "I request the Swedish authorities to burn him just as they burned my son."
He noted that the family has faced many similar incidents, adding, "Not long ago, an Iraqi named Saddam Al-Jamal was arrested; he was the governor of Raqqa, and it was reported that he confessed to the murder of Muath." He concluded by asserting that ISIS is still alive and carrying out terrorist acts every day, calling on the entire world to confront it.
It is worth noting that the case of the Jordanian pilot has once again come to the forefront in recent days, following the launch of a Swedish investigation into war crimes committed in Syria. A spokesperson for the Swedish public prosecution office told AFP that a preliminary investigation is underway "into serious war crimes committed in Syria," which apparently includes the name of the Swedish “Osama Kareem” as one of those involved in the burning of Al-Kasasbeh.
