Aleksander Čeferin, the president of UEFA, issued a new warning to Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona regarding their insistence on establishing a European Super League. Čeferin stated in an interview with the Associated Press, “It is clear that clubs will have to decide whether they are Super League clubs or European clubs. If they say they are Super League clubs, then they will not play in the Champions League. If they are willing to do that, they can play in their own competition.”
According to Čeferin's statements, Real Madrid will continue in the current edition of the Champions League normally and will face Chelsea in the semifinals. However, it may face, along with Barcelona, the penalty of exclusion from future editions if they maintain their current stance. He added, “We are still waiting for any legal developments regarding what happened and will present it later, but everyone faces the consequences of their decisions, and they know that.”
When asked about the clubs that withdrew from the Super League in comparison to Real Madrid and Barcelona, Aleksander Čeferin remarked, "To me, it is a completely different stance between the clubs that acknowledged their mistake and said (we will leave the project), and the others who know that I will say this project is dead, but they probably do not want to believe it."
