The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced the return of its ambassador, Saif Mohammed Al Zaabi, to assume his duties in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in the coming days. The ministry indicated that this decision comes in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with the diplomatic norms practiced between countries.
The ministry emphasized that Ambassador Al Zaabi will resume his diplomatic responsibilities at the UAE Embassy in Iran in the upcoming days, aiming "to contribute to advancing bilateral relations in coordination and cooperation with officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran to achieve the common interests of the two neighboring countries and the region."
This step is in line with the decision of the UAE and Iran to elevate the level of diplomatic representation to that of an ambassador, based on the phone call that took place on July 26, 2022, between UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
