Tehran on Wednesday called on Seoul to take immediate action to release the Iranian financial assets frozen in South Korean banks.
This came during statements by the head of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Mojtaba Zonnouri, during his meeting with South Korean First Deputy Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun. Mojtaba Zonnouri emphasized that the historical relations between the two nations and the absence of crises in bilateral cooperation create a suitable foundation for the growth and development of relations in various fields, urging Seoul to promptly release the frozen Iranian financial assets.
For his part, the South Korean First Deputy Foreign Minister stated, "We have had constructive and beneficial discussions with Iranian officials on the path to developing and enhancing bilateral cooperation and removing obstacles and issues hindering this cooperation." Earlier this month, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had detained the South Korean oil tanker "MT Hankook Chemie" on charges of environmental pollution. South Korea considered on Tuesday that the prospects for the release of the detained oil tanker were "unclear," as they put it.
