British TV station "ITV" reported that Prime Minister Boris Johnson organized a birthday party at "10 Downing Street" while the country was under a full lockdown prohibiting gatherings. If this incident is confirmed, it could represent another scandal for Boris Johnson, who is struggling to maintain his political career after a previous scandal involving his attendance at a party in his office during the first lockdown in 2020.
The British Prime Minister's office cast doubt on the latest report regarding the birthday party, according to British network "Sky News" on Tuesday. "ITV" had earlier stated that Johnson held a Christmas party inside "10 Downing Street," attended by about 30 people during the first lockdown, which prohibited gatherings for Britons, constituting a violation.
The channel reported that the Prime Minister's wife, Carrie Johnson, assisted in organizing the party, which took place on the afternoon of June 19, 2020, the Prime Minister's birthday. The party was held at the Cabinet Office after Johnson returned from visiting a school in Hertfordshire.
Previously, Johnson offered various explanations regarding parties that had been reported, initially claiming that no rules were broken, before later having to apologize to the British public. Opposition leader Keir Starmer commented on the Christmas gathering: "This is further evidence that we have a Prime Minister who believes that the rules he sets do not apply to him," according to "Reuters." He added, "We cannot afford to continue with this chaotic government that is adrift. The Prime Minister is a national distraction and needs to go."
