Sami Clark: The Arab World Bids Farewell to Its Childhood Voice as Lebanon Loses One of Its Musical Treasures

Lebanese singer Sami Clark passed away in a hospital in Beirut on Sunday at the age of 74, as announced by the National News Agency. Lebanese media reported that the cause of death was "heart problems," which the late artist had suffered from in recent years. He was born in "Dhour Choueir" in 1948, and his real name was Sami Habiqah, but he chose the stage name "Clark" for its ease of pronunciation in foreign languages, which he mastered and began his singing career with, achieving early successes through it, especially after collaborating with the late composer Elias Rahbani and later participating in several international festivals, where his operatic voice soared beyond Lebanon's borders, earning numerous global awards.

Arabically, Sami Clark was one of the warm and distinctly unique voices of the 1980s musical era. Some of his most famous songs include "Ah Ala Hel Ayam" and "Waqomi Tanraqs Ya Sabiyeh." Perhaps his most iconic contribution remembered by generations across the Arab world is his performance of the theme songs for the famous animated series "Treasure Island" and "Grendizer."

The late artist's repertoire includes hundreds of songs that enriched our musical memory in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Greek, Armenian, and Russian. Many Lebanese and Arab artists expressed their sadness at his passing.
