Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the selfish attempts of the West to transfer its macroeconomic errors onto the rest of the world have resulted in a crisis that can only be overcome through sincere and mutually beneficial cooperation. This was mentioned during his speech at the BRICS summit (Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa) held today via video conference. He pointed out that the West is burdening the world with the consequences of its economic mistakes, leveraging financial mechanisms.
Putin said, "Only on the basis of sincere and mutually beneficial cooperation can we seek ways out of the crisis that has developed in the global economy due to the thoughtless selfish actions of individual (Western) countries, which are actually transferring (the West's) macroeconomic errors onto the entire world."
The Russian president also noted that the stature of BRICS countries on the global stage is continuously increasing, due to the economic, political, and human potential of the member countries, which include Russia, India, Brazil, China, and South Africa. He expressed confidence in the importance of BRICS nations in developing a unified and positive path toward the formation of a real multipolar system of international relations based on globally recognized legal standards and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.
He indicated that many countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, which strive for an independent policy, could be counted on for support. He expressed confidence that the summit would be meaningful and fruitful, allowing leaders to exchange views on the most important global and regional issues. He reaffirmed that Russia is ready to continue developing close, multi-faceted cooperation with all group partners and contribute to enhancing its role on the international stage.
Key statements from Putin during the speech included:
- BRICS countries are working to deepen cooperation and the group's stature is increasing.
- Western countries, with the help of financial mechanisms, are shifting their macroeconomic errors onto the world.
- The role of BRICS is now necessary for building a multipolar world.
