What Benefits Your Heart Benefits Your Mind: A Stunning Recipe for a Strong Memory

Everyone knows the benefits of exercising for physical health, but a new study has confirmed its benefits for memory improvement, especially as one ages. The study, the results of which were published in the journal "Communications Medicine," found that continuing to exercise with aging contributes to improving episodic memory (the memory of autobiographical events and personal experiences that occurred at a specific time and place).

Sarah Agyan, the lead researcher from the Department of Clinical and Biological Health at the University of Pittsburgh, regarded walking as one of the most important types of exercise for memory, as it also reduces stress and is beneficial for brain health. Agyan added, "Exercising three times a week was sufficient to observe benefits. It seems that reaping these benefits in episodic memory takes about four months," as reported by United Press International.

The researcher continued: "Regular physical activity can improve mood, heart health, and reduce weight, all of which have an impact on the brain and memory." She pointed out that she discovered the mental health benefits of exercise after reviewing 36 studies involving 2,750 participants with an average age of 71, who exercised for 15 to 90 minutes, three times a week for 18 to 39 weeks.

Agyan noted that individuals aged between 55 and 68 showed the most significant improvement in memory when they exercised. She concluded by saying, "Everything that is good for your heart is good for your mind. Try to find something you enjoy so you can stick with it for a long time, and don't forget to share this activity with a friend."
