Study Reveals Serious Consequences a Year After COVID-19 Recovery

A recent study has revealed serious cardiovascular complications that can occur in individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, one year post-infection, regardless of the severity of their illness. The American study found a 20% increased risk of various cardiovascular issues for those who contracted the virus and have been symptom-free for a year.

Eric Topol, a cardiologist at Scripps Research, expressed surprise at the findings, describing the conditions as "serious disorders." According to the study, reported by Fox News, those who have recovered from COVID-19 face a 63% higher risk of heart attack and a 52% higher risk of stroke one year after infection. It was also noted that there is a 72% increased risk of heart failure among those who have recovered.

The study highlighted that these elevated risks could affect everyone, regardless of sex, age, or pre-existing health conditions. Nature Medicine pointed out that even individuals who were not hospitalized during their COVID-19 infection were still at a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The analysis, according to the sources, relied on data from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, including health information for 154,000 individuals infected with COVID-19.
