A study has reported an increasing outbreak of a new contagious disease affecting young children, named "Tomato Flu." Specifically, 82 children have been infected with "Tomato Flu" in India while 26 other children under the age of ten are suspected to be infected, according to the British newspaper "The Sun" and the medical journal "Lancet."
The new virus causes a red rash, as well as fever and joint pain. Experts indicated that the disease is highly contagious and they fear it may extend to adults as well. Indian Health Minister J. Radakrishnan stated that the infection is a new type of illness affecting hands, feet, and mouth.
Indian authorities confirmed that 82 cases have been reported in recent months, with all infections occurring among children under 5 years old. Regarding the name, it was mentioned that this "flu" got its name due to the appearance of painful red blisters all over the body, which gradually swell to the size of a tomato.
The symptoms are like those of other viral diseases and include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, dehydration, and body aches, resembling flu symptoms, although the causes are still unknown.
It is important to note that there is no official evidence yet indicating the severity of this new virus or whether it poses a life-threatening risk. In the meantime, infected children are being treated with traditional medications such as paracetamol, rest, and plenty of fluids.
