Title: Former Officer Holds 57 Million in 700 Safes, Police Confiscate It

Indian authorities confiscated 57 million rupees in cash (approximately 7.7 million USD) that had been hidden in private safes at the residence of a former Indian police officer, following a raid by income tax officials. The cash was seized during the search. An Indian source reported that they received information indicating that amounts reaching ten million rupees were stored in the basement of one of the buildings. The source stated that the son of Ram Narain Singh, a former Indian police officer from the 1983 batch, was running a company from the basement that contained 700 safes. Large quantities of 2000 and 500 rupee notes were recovered, hidden in 18-20 safes. Tax officials used a currency counting machine typically used in banks to tally the seized cash from these safes. Ram Narain Singh, the owner of the building and the former officer, spoke to the media, stating: "After my retirement, I stayed in my village. There are safes we provide as a special service in a secured building, and the service is characterized by the ease of withdrawal and deposit from these safes compared to banks. There are two safes in my name, and nothing illegal was found in them except family jewelry."
