Two Egyptian brothers working in drug dealing killed a young man in front of his home after he advised them to stay away from drugs in the Helwan area of Cairo. The victim, Mahmoud Ismail, 25 years old, who lived in the Arab Ghneim area of Helwan, was murdered solely because he told them, as a neighbor, to refrain from harming him and to stop selling drugs near his home. The suspects, Mustafa A. and Mohamed A., were known for frequently assaulting local residents and attacking anyone who advised them to stop their disgraceful actions, according to eyewitnesses.
Sayed Hamdy, a friend of the victim, reported that Mahmoud expressed his anger toward the suspects, who had turned the area into a place for selling narcotics and promoting their suspicious trade. He urged them to cease their illicit activities in the street and informed them, as a neighbor, that he would report them if they continued. This led to an argument that escalated into a physical fight and ended at that moment, according to Sky News.
He added that the suspects decided to punish Mahmoud, and within a few minutes, they returned to the area armed with knives and assaulted him, leaving him bleeding and lifeless on the spot, much to the shock of passersby. He noted that the suspects were notorious for thuggery, drug use, and trafficking, and were in constant disputes with everyone in the area.
Eyewitnesses stated that the victim, Mahmoud Ismail, had a good reputation and was helpful to everyone, which made his murder in such a manner cause great sorrow in the community. Mahmoud's body was transferred to Helwan General Hospital, and the police station in Helwan was notified. Security forces gathered information about the crime from local residents and witnesses. While the suspects initially fled, security forces tracked them down and arrested them within a few hours, and they were referred to the public prosecutor, who ordered them to be detained for four days pending the investigation.
