The recent statements made by the international Egyptian football star, Mohamed Salah, continue to spark debate and reactions. A clip from his interview on the talk show "Al Hikaya," aired on MBC, has garnered significant attention on social media.
In the cited clip, host Amr Adib asked Salah about how global teams generally handle the injury or illness of any player, to which the Liverpool forward responded that "it happens, and management understands that," emphasizing that such situations are natural and beyond the player's control.
When questioned about his COVID-19 infection and whether the club reprimanded him, Salah jokingly replied, "They didn't make an issue of it, but they asked me, 'Did you get COVID at the wedding?'" He added that people understood it was his brother’s wedding and such occasions do not happen every day, humorously saying, "I hope he doesn’t get married every day."
Salah also stressed the importance of vaccinations, explaining that the World Health Organization, which includes experts and specialists, has confirmed the necessity of vaccination. He urged people to adhere to these guidelines issued by scientists.
This prompted the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom, to comment on Salah's statements, expressing gratitude to the player for encouraging people to get vaccinated. He shared a tweet featuring Salah's remarks from the interview, writing, "Thank you, Mohamed Salah, for these supportive words." He added, "Vaccines save lives, including against COVID-19, so we hope the world will work together to vaccinate the most vulnerable people everywhere."
It is noteworthy that the famous Liverpool forward contracted COVID-19 last year after attending his brother's wedding in Egypt, which included a large number of relatives.
