Twitter Tests New Feature: Notification Bell for Users

Twitter is testing a new feature that sends notifications to users when tweets or topics containing keywords they have previously searched for on the platform are published. According to developer Dylan Rossell's post on Twitter, the new feature, called Search Subscribe, is not yet available on the official Twitter app. However, Dylan was able to enable the feature via the source code of the experimental version, Twitter Alpha.

The feature is represented by a bell icon next to the search box where users type the keyword(s) they want to search for. By clicking on the bell icon, a notification will appear indicating that the user will receive notifications about any new tweets that include the same keywords.

This feature is similar to what TweetDeck offers for organizing Twitter usage on computers, as it provides notifications for any new tweets issued on a specific topic. Dylan noted in his tweets that he had not received notifications despite activating the feature, attributing it to being in development.

He added that the operational mechanism of the new feature is unclear; it is not understood whether notifications will come instantly upon the publication of a tweet using a keyword the user searched for, or if notifications will compile several tweets and present them in chronological order to the user.

The experimental feature is expected to be exclusively available to subscribers of the paid Twitter Blue service, which has a monthly subscription of $3, before becoming available to the general user base later.
