A statement on Sunday confirmed that Jordanian Prince Hamzah bin Hussein has relinquished his title of "Prince." On March 8, Prince Hamzah apologized to Jordanian King Abdullah II regarding the events surrounding the "sedition" case. In a message published by the Jordanian News Agency, he stated, "I apologize to the Jordanian people and our family for all these actions." He added in the message, "I was wrong, my older brother; everyone makes mistakes," and continued, "I take responsibility for my national duties regarding the offenses I committed over the past years and the events that followed in the 'sedition' case."
The Jordanian News Agency explained that the message came after the king met with Prince Hamzah at his request. For its part, the Jordanian Royal Court at that time announced that "the prince's apology is a step in the right direction towards returning the princes' roles in serving the nation as per the king's mandate." King Abdullah had decided to address the issue of Prince Hamzah in the "sedition" case after it was revealed last year within the family context, assigning Prince Hassan bin Talal to manage this matter. At that time, Prince Hamzah committed to adhering to the constitution and the course of the Hashemite family while remaining in his palace.
### Sentences for the Accused
Last July, the Jordanian State Security Court sentenced former Royal Court Chief Bassem Awadallah to 15 years in prison in connection with the "sedition" case. In the same case, the court sentenced Sharif Hassan bin Zaid to 15 years following his conviction. It is noteworthy that in June of last year, the State Security Court charged Awadallah and Sharif Hassan with incitement against the existing political regime in the kingdom. The charges against Awadallah and Sharif Hassan included "engaging in acts that would endanger the community's safety and security and incite sedition."
