Russia Mobilizes Pacific Fleet

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that more than 40 warships and support vessels, along with up to 20 aircraft and helicopters from the Pacific Fleet, have begun exercises in a remote maritime area. The Russian defense stated in a report: "From June 3 to June 10, exercises involving various forces will be conducted in the Pacific under the command of Pacific Fleet commander Admiral Sergey Avakyants," adding that more than 40 warships, support vessels, and up to 20 aircraft are participating in the exercise.

During the exercises, sailors and naval aviation personnel will search for hypothetical enemy submarines, work on organizing air defense for tactical groups of ships, and arrange logistics for forces at sea, in addition to conducting live-fire training against surface and aerial targets.

The statement continued that upon leaving their designated areas, "a number of tasks were accomplished, including practical operations to overcome mined areas of the sea and artillery fire against life-size models of floating mines that pose a danger to civil navigation." Among the vessels participating in the exercises are the command ship "Marshal Krylov," the frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov," large anti-submarine ships, small anti-submarine vessels, minesweepers, missile boats, and support vessels.
