The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces issued a statement clarifying the true reason for the arrest of a protester during the protests in Tripoli.
The National News Agency reported that after the release of the individual (R.L.), who participated in the protest on January 30, 2021, he was noted to have acted disrespectfully towards security personnel, and a video of his inappropriate behavior circulated on social media. The agency added, citing the Interior Security Forces’ statement, that an investigation in the Mina al-Hosn precinct revealed that a security checkpoint had stopped five individuals in three cars who were participating in the demonstration, and they did not have permits justifying their presence, thus violating the lockdown order, except for the mentioned (R.L.) who had obtained a permit to visit a doctor.
The statement continued that (R.L.) addressed the officer and personnel with inappropriate language and actions that do not represent individuals protesting for a specific cause or living demands, indicating that he committed a highly disgraceful and unethical act towards the personnel and the officer in charge of the checkpoint, violating the dignity of the law and showing a lack of respect towards himself and others first, before disrespecting the personnel responsible for his safety and security.
The statement clarified that reports were filed against everyone for violating the lockdown order, and they were released based on residency permits, except for (R.L.) who was arrested based on the instructions of the competent judiciary due to his contempt for the officer and the personnel carrying out their duties, not due to his participation in the protest. It confirmed that he was treated professionally and that necessary medical tests were also conducted to verify his health status, which was found to be normal.
