Miqati's Mission Complicated Amidst Non-Cooperation from Key Forces

While awaiting the third meeting between President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati, obstacles pile up in the formation process, especially in light of the return of political bickering and the intensified tone of rhetoric in the past 48 hours. Informed political circles state that Miqati's mission remains in its initial stages and is hindered by the numerous burdens that are impossible to address, given the reluctance of the majority of political and party forces to cooperate with him in this complicated task. There is a firm conviction among these forces that any government, irrespective of its composition and the personalities it will include, cannot make any breakthrough in the unprecedented economic and social crisis, which has surpassed red lines and threatens dire consequences if it continues to escalate in the short term.

According to the same informed circles, the formation process has become a point of sharp contention between the first and third presidencies, due to the criteria and conditions set by both presidencies. This has led Miqati to first propose a government lineup described as "hasty," and the President to counter with a government proposal that considers political balances. This has resulted in a type of intense conflict in governmental approaches, thereby placing the formation process in a deadlock, making the birth of a government in the coming weeks seem almost like a "miracle." The circles add that the current situation appears more stagnant than positively realistic while waiting for certain political parties involved in the governmental file to engage in the discrepancies between Baabda and the Serail in the upcoming hours, in order to prepare the atmosphere for Miqati's next meeting at the presidential palace.
