Arrest of the Mastermind Behind a Motorcycle Theft Gang

A statement was issued by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division, stating the following: As part of the continuous monitoring carried out by the Information Branch of the Internal Security Forces to combat motorcycle thefts in various Lebanese regions and to pursue those involved, the branch had previously arrested members of a gang operating in this field in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Tripoli. The specialized units continued their field and investigative procedures to identify the leader of the mentioned gang.

As a result of intensive inquiries and investigations, they identified the suspect, who is named: A. R. M. (born in 1989, Lebanese), with a criminal history of theft and robbery. On May 17, 2022, after a monitoring operation, one of the Information Branch patrols spotted him in the Al-Bassamra area, driving a Mitsubishi van. They ambushed and arrested him, and seized the van, which was found to be stolen.

During the investigation, the arrested individual confessed to leading a motorcycle theft gang and stated that he had executed numerous theft operations in several areas of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Tripoli with the members of his gang, who had been arrested earlier. He also admitted to stealing the van from the Bourj al-Barajneh area to use it in stealing motorcycles and transporting them to the Masoudiyeh area in Akkar, where he sells them to an individual who, in turn, smuggles them into Syrian territory.

Legal action was taken against him, and he was referred along with the seized items to the relevant authority, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary.
